EASTERN AFRICA ASSOCIATION FOR IMPACT ASSESSMENT (EAAIA)

The association is a network of researchers, practitioners, decision makers and people interested in Environmental Assessments in the Eastern Africa Region. It has membership in nine countries of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, Eritrea and Djibouti, and also outside the region. The purpose of establishing the association is to support capacity building in Environmental Assessment through exchange, networking and strengthening EA policies and practice in the region, with a main focus on Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment. The association is registered in Kenya and currently hosted by International Union for Conservation of Nature, Eastern Africa Regional Office (IUCN- EARO) in Nairobi. Establishment of the association have enjoyed the general support of United States Agency for International Development, Regional Economic Development and Support Office –Eastern and Southern Africa (USAID REDSO/ESA). The association has its concrete objectives, programme of activities and guidelines on membership rights and obligations and benefits.
